IDM Berlin 2015

From the 19th to the 21st of Juni the German Open National Championships in Paralympic Athletics took place in Berlin. After some problems with an injured foot last Winter my main goal for this competition was to further improve my results from the first few competitions this season and thus to offset my rather bad start into the season. My aim was to fulfill the A-standards over 100m and 200m for this year’s IPC World Championships in Doha (Qatar) staged in October (11.30s and 22.90s). The sprints saw good competition and I was able to compete against some potential rivals for Doha. The weather in Berlin was very inconsistent and offered everything from sunshine to heavy rain – sometimes within only very short moments. The only constant was the chilly headwind. For Friday’s Heats we faced 1.4m/s whereas for the finals on Saturday we faced 2.4m/s headwind. Having run 11.38 and 11.42 respectively I am happy considering the circumstances, even though I missed my goal of running the A-Standards for Doha. The same accounts for the 200m where I ran a time of 23.38s with a headwind of 2.1m/s. The runs have shown that I am continuing to improve and I am optimistic for the upcoming competition and qualification period, even though it’s going to be tough to make up for the missed training in Winter. But there is still time until October.
